ARACENA  ARACENA
 

Aracena is in the heart of the sierra, an extremely touristy place, in which the hill of the fortress dominates, on which the Prior church he of the fortress (13. and 14. Century) and the ruins of the old fortress stand. Under this hill, a labyrinth of abysses and bridges proceeds. The cave of Gruta de las Maravillas is from stalactites and stalagmites. Over one thousand meter is accessible to the public. In the lobby of the cave, the interesting museum declares as geology and mining.

   
   

Outside the cave, one can view the outdoor museum for contemporary sculpture. Aracena possesses also a row of religious and civilian buildings of big interest, as the churches Asunción (16 Century) Santa Catalina, (an old Jewish synagogue from the 16 Century), El Carmen and Santo Domingo (16 Century), the old town hall with his portrait of Hernán Ruiz (1563) and the palace of the bishop Moya, (17 Century).
